Artist of the week: Beate Kuhn

CA. 1950 HEIGHT 17 CM / 6,7 INCH 175 Euros

Beate Kuhn is a fantastic ceramic artist who makes altered wheel thrown objects. I chose her because my fiance is currently in Germany, which is where she is from. (I asked him to bring me back something ceramic-y like a stein or something)

Okay, on to her work!
When you look up work from Kuhn, you get the same double cat image and weird egg shaped object. With a bit of time you can skim past those oddities and find some of her gems. This is an awesome vase, that I can only image how it was constructed. I assume she starts by throwing a large vase then rips out the center to make it the way we see it today.

I might just need to hop on the wheel myself and try to construct one of these myself. Except I think I would add another hole on the other side. I want to make a vase/ cup for my wedding that has that whole unity thingy attached to it.

Here is some more of her fabulous works:

Sorry, there is no names or dates, these were taken mostly from German websites.
