radio hoaxes

Website devoted to Radio Hoaxes like Ronald Knox's Broadcasting the Brigades. Which happened 12 years before the Orson Wells broadcast of the war of the worlds. Same style broadcast Knox reports about cricket games, and whatnot than goes in and out of telling the story about unruly demonstrators gone bad. I think I might follow the technique of Knox and have my listeners listen to a normal news stories than give them tidbits of something much more terrifying.

Another day of Research blogging

More Reasearch on Old Timey Radio Station Broadcasts

I found an interesting website called Old Time Radio where you can listen to old news reports here. What is neat about this site is that I can listen to different bullitins that "Shaped our lives", for example the Landing of the Hindeberg, or the first time American's heard about the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Which is important for my own broadcast, with the ways they cut in and out as well as sounds they used too.

Things to work on:

Script of the actual Broadcast
Ceramic creature that is the focal point for a picture of the event
Photoshopped picture of the event
Finding sounds to use in the broadcast
Recording and editing of the broadcast
Casting (Hopefully Definitely Alex as an announcer, if I need another voice I might ask Jeff)
Time to work on all of these things, blehh

Exposure Notice

Residents of Alameda near the US Naval Base that have notified if they are in a high contamination zone for Polychlorinated Biphenyl have been exposed now to ROB2’s and RO2PB’s. Improper clean up of Polychlorinated Biphenyl has lead to accidents of break outs of RO2PB’s. Residents in this area need to remain vigilant and report any possible appearances of RO2PB’s. RO2PB’s are dangerous and give off radio electromagnetic waves when frighten. These waves are harmful and can start as extreme nausea for minimal exposure and lead into liver failure for longer exposure times. Do not try to destroy a RO2PB failure to comply with these actions will result in a hefty fine and personal injury. People in this area now have a sunset and sunrise curfew due to these incidents.

ROB2’s are organisms that live in wet soil and are virtually harmless, save for a rash that might appear on hands that can last a few hours. You will be unable to see ROB2’s with out a microscope. ROB2’s have evolved into RO2PB’s when they were exposed to Polychlorinated Biphenyl and have grown into a larger state. Fortunately the life span of an RO2PB is forty eight hours and they are unable to breed. Adult RO2PB’s need leave the soil when their environment does not have the right moisture consistencies able for them. They are light sensitive so exposure at night time is most dangerous time to come in contact with them. Luckily RO2PB’s do not like salty water, so it is unlikely they will leave Alameda.

Alameda Naval Base

Well as far as a location goes I am going to go with the Alameda Naval Base for many reasons. One Alameda is an island and so there are only a few ways to get on and off it. Two, I've actually been on the Naval base and know a little bit of the geography of the area so it makes sense that I have access to my location. Three there was an actual contamination of a chemical substance on the base making some truth in the story I will tell. Every good story has some actual truth mixed in for good measure.

I am going to make an organism that has evolved from its exposure from Polychlorinated Biphenyl. A chemical that can cause cancer and liver failure. The residents near the Naval Base, already know about this chemical and the ongoing problems with the clean-up of it. My story will be based off those facts, the organism will be a failed experiment that got exposed to chemical spill and evolve into something larger and more dangerous to be around. I want the creature to have an increase in risk during the hotter months and for residents to be worried about the soil around them for future break outs. My exposure notice will prolly have a date for when they need to evacuate for a spray service to come out and test the soils around their homes and spray for exterminating the creature.

Technologies Of the Future!

Well, I would be remiss if in an article about new technologies that are happening around me I didn't talk first about the iPad and how it is already changing our world. In an article titled "How the Tablet Will Change the World" from Wired Magazine.

The only other technology that has really impacted my life to be honest is a Swiffer. No other product in my adult life has made life less complicated than a Swiffer. Their patented technology of a base that spins in any direction with disposable duster and wet mop has been incredibly helpful. None of my cameras have improved my life this much, my touch screen phone isnt nearly as functional as my Swiffer. I would argue to say that Swiffer could be in a top 10 list of greatest technologies in the past 20 years. Two hundred reviewers on Amazon can't be wrong, Swiffer is the way to go.
